On select resources, you can assign and unassign [Tags](https://scopious.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/85917701/Glossary+of+Terms#Tag).

## Resources that can be tagged

Tags can be assigned to the following resources:

- Devices
- Gateways
- Dashboards
- Alarms
- Sites

## Assign and unassign tags to resources

All taggable resources can have up to three tags assigned to them by navigating to the resource's individual page and selecting the tag(s) to assign.

To remove a tag from a resource, navigate to the resource's individual page and click the small cross next to the tag name.

## Filter by tags

While viewing a list of taggable resources, you can filter resources by the tag applied to them. To do this, click the **Sort & Filter** button and select one or more tags that you would like to filter on.

## Tag data packets

Data packets sent to external platforms can be tagged to enable easier categorisation of data in your platform.

To tag data packets you must:

1. Enable the **Device Data** tag behaviour when [creating the tag](https://scopious.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/533135389/Create+a+Tag#Create-a-Tag).
2. Assign the tag to the device whose packets you wish to tag. If you want to apply this behaviour to all devices, you must tag all devices with the tag.

> ℹ️ Note the change is not immediate and may take up to 4 hours to take effect.

Device Data tags work by adding a ‘key:value’ pair to the `attributes` section of device uplink messages, where the key is the tag **Field Key** and the value is the tag **Name**.

- Example: When tag **Name** is `workshop` and **Field Key** is `location`, the attribute added to device uplink packets is:
